Rachel Lightbody is an acclaimed vocalist on the jazz, folk and contemporary music scenes in Scotland. A graduate of University of Strathclyde’s BA in Applied Music course in 2011, she has worked non-stop ever since as a front woman, backing vocalist, and vocal and songwriting tutor. Recent notable achievements include: her nominations for Best Vocalist in the 2018 and 2019 Jazz Awards; the featured vocalist in sold-out performances of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Court and Spark’ (featured on BBC Radio Scotland 2018), and Carole King’s ‘Tapestry’ with Start-to-End at Celtic Connections; and her work as a backing vocalist for folk singer Siobhan Miller, featured on BBC Quay sessions (2019). Rachel has a busy session-schedule working with artists such as Fat-Suit, Tom McGuire and the Brassholes, Mezcla, Alyn Cosker, Siobhan Miller, The Elusive Tree Ensemble, Angus Munro, as well as her vocal trio Little Acres.
Pianist Tom Gibbs was one of Jazzwise’s ‘One to Watch 2011′ and has been called ‘A star in its ascendancy’ by BBC Radio Scotland. His 2010 album ‘Forgotten Things’ co-led with Euan Burton, featured New Yorkers Ari Hoenig and Gilad Hekselman, and was one of BBC Scotland’s records of the year. The project was nominated in two categories (best band, best album) at the 2011 Scottish Jazz Awards. ’A thoughtfully composed and beautifully played set of tunes, and a disc which reveals fresh delights with each listen’ (Peter Bacon, The Jazz Breakfast).
