It just seems like five minutes ago but it was actually 40 years ago this year that I was invited to present ‘The Friday Night Rock Show’ every week on Radio Clyde.

That first show in 1980 started me off on numerous adventures, playing rock music on the radio …. over 20 years on Radio Clyde, followed by the much missed 96.3 Rock Radio / Real XS / XFM / Rocksport and now …….. THE MAX

The Max is a brand new radio station for Glasgow and Scotland and I was delighted be be asked to present four hours of rock music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

I’ll be playing my usual selection of tunes from most of the rock genres …… including classics from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Metallica, Guns N Roses and AC/DC …. plus lesser known rock bands from the 60s / 70s / 80s / 90s as well as new releases from both established and new rock bands.

I’ve been fortunate during my career to interview most of the major rock bands and that will continue on The Max ……. we will be recording interviews on my shows both on audio and on video, and if you miss hearing or seeing an interview with a band on the show, you will be able to “catch -up” on the website: myplayer.uk  where they will be freely available (there are already interviews on the site with: Alter Bridge / Those Damn Crows / Shinedown / Wayward Sons / Collateral / Jared James Nichols / Willie & The Bandits and Bon Jovi’s guitarist PhilX)

I’ve always enjoyed giving a bit of airplay to new, up and coming bands and that will continue ….. you can’t live in the past forever, it’s always great to hear again classics like: Sweet Home Alabama, Black Night and Pour Some Sugar On Me, but without new bands, rock music may not die, but it will certainly fade away.

Some of the newer bands that have broken through in recent years that I will be playing include: Shinedown, Black Star Riders, Volbeat, H.E.A.T.  Alter Bridge, Rival Sons, King King, Airbourne  and Black Stone Cherry.

We will also be continuing to support new and unsigned bands on the station. There is a definite resurgence of young rock bands on the last few years and we will be playing them in the evenings on The Max ……. recently, Mason Hill, Those Damn Crows, Massive Wagons, Anchor Lane, Empyre, Collateral and Swamp Born Assassins have all broken through, and there are plenty more young, talented rock bands out there that we will be playing every night ….. on The Max
