Rachel was a winer of the Duais Dìleab Chaluim Chille / The Colmcille Legacy Award, which was a national arts and heritage award scheme created by CHARTS in partnership with Bòrd na Gàidhlig to commemorate the life and cultural legacy of Colmcille/ St Columba, throughout the Year of Colmcille 1500.... Rachel Walker is based in Inverness and has a passion for Gaelic music and culture. Since Graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 1999, she has been actively involved in the performance, production and promotion of traditional music. Rachel has been commissioned to compose music for festivals and events and has won nominations and awards for her songwriting. With her award Rachel has composed a new Gaelic song in the form of a Gaelic hymn / blessing, drawing references to the life work of Colmcille and the people and places he is linked with. Rachel has been inspired by old hymn structures, paying particular attention to the ancient hymns that are said to be attributed to Colmcille and through which he communicated with the wider spiritual community.
